Moonfire Pottery was established by Claire Glass-Delffs in 1981 in Chatsworth, Ca. Before creating Moonfire Pottery, Claire studied fine art and ceramics at Pierce College for several years. While studying there she worked as a ceramic lab assistant and student teacher. She also taught Raku as an extension course. During her several years of study, she attended several workshops given at different colleges to study different methods of creating pottery. After graduating from Pierce College, Claire apprenticed at a small Production pottery studio for two and a half years. There, she learned the practical side of creating pottery, such as production throwing, merchandising, and running a small business.

In 1981, Claire created Moonfire Pottery. She used what she learned at school, workshops and production studios to create a unique line of stoneware pottery.

In 1987, Claire moved to Oregon, and took Bill Delffs into her business. Using her experience from college and production studio work, she taught Bill production studio pottery. Bill now throws almost 100% of the pottery, leaving Claire to concentrate on hand painting her whimsical designs.

Bill and Claire, now together create a unique hand thrown pottery line, using white stoneware. They have created their own unique porcelain glazes specifically for Claire's art work. These wonderful stable glazes enables Claire to hand paint over them and maintain clear concise designs. Over the years Claire has developed a variety of whimsical animal , floral and abstract designs, with a definite focus on cats. All Moonfire Pottery is hand glazed and hand painted by Bill and Claire. All pottery is signed and dated. All pottery is both functional and decorative. It is also lead free, dishwasher safe, and microwave safe.
