Meet Janet Foley, Fused Glass - A Pacific NW Artist

Janet Foley is a local northwest fused Glass Artist who works from her home studio in Snohomish. She shows her glass locally and teaches Fused Glass out her studio, for the Kirkland Art Center, Arts Council of Snohomish, as an Artist of Residency in local schools, and as a mentor to high school students.

I create a mosaic kaleidoscope of brilliantly colored fused art glass. I approach each new piece with no specific pattern in mind. After assembling several different colors and shapes, the pattern begins to take on a life of its own.

One piece can take up to hundreds of individually hand cut pieces of glass stacked upon one another on a flat glass base. It is fired slowly in a kiln. The pieces fuse or melt into each other forming a solid sheet. This is fired again over a mold to form bowls, platters, plates, mirrors, tiles and other shapes. My work has been influenced by travel. From the brilliant colors and mosaic buildings of Thailand to the black and white mosaic granite sidewalks of Rio, I see pattern. From nature to artwork, from landscapes to manscapes, I see vibrant colors and patterns everywhere I look.
