Living on Long Island, NY, I've been photographing for 15 years. In addition to art prints, I also do portrait work and special occasions. I shoot both film and digitally, both in 35mm and medium format equipment.
I've also taught adult-ed photography courses for a few years, which I found very gratifying. I would derive satisfaction seeing someone develop their skills from basically nothing to fairly skilled in the art of photography.
I like to shoot and develop an ordinary subject into a piece of art. I shoot mostly locally. Feeling most anyone can shoot a lovely vista that lends itself, through it's own beauty, to a successful photo. I prefer to seek a photo within a photo, breaking a scene down to it's most basic elements. Thus, I've developed a style for mostly very tight cropping. I feel nice and tight composition helps bring the strength of a subject to light.
I do small touch ups digitally, but shy away from heavy digital alterations to an image. I do nothing on the computer which can't be done in a wet darkroom, preferring the photo be successful before the shutter is tripped.
I hope you enjoy viewing some of my work and I thank you for your interest.
Sincerely,
Ken Thalheimer
