Meet Susan Rothschild - Pacific NW Artist - 'Caught between two worlds'
An Artist in mixed media, Susan works in paper, glass and tile. Photography and watercolor are her starting points.
She grew up in England where she was forced to choose at an early age between an education in art or science, she chose science at that time and it took 50 more years before she returned to the art she loved. Her career path took her through 10 years modeling, and 30 years as a Hollywood photographer, and then she came to the NW and now works as a full time artist and designer with some computer consulting thrown in! She is completely self taught.
The majority of my images begin as photographs, but if I can’t photograph something, I will paint it in watercolor instead as a starting point. I then digitally alter and transform the images until they become what I had in mind. Printing is done on archival paper, or using a dye sublimation technique on glass and tile.
My images are for both hanging wall art but also to bring beauty to usable items like glass cutting boards and sun catchers.
I love animals and organic forms and finally have realized that I’m spanning the gap between nature and technology with my art. I hope you like it as much as I enjoy doing it.
Thank you,
Susan Rothschild
